Sometimes we look at sights in nature but don't really see. While hiking in the woods the other day, it became a realization that we need to open our heart and eyes to see the beauty of the simple things in nature with each season. There is so much order and purpose in His creation. God has given us awesome beauty in this world to see and enjoy... if we would but stop to see and feel it. Join us as this blog is about stopping to see the real beauty around us...to touch and feel it... "Through the Lens".

For the Beauty of the Earth…

                   DSC_7465

Gerri and I decided the time was right, the weather was good and the leaves were at their peak in the north Georgia mountains, so…off we went.  Destination, Cloudland Canyon State Park, journey…the view and serenity of the trip!  When we got there the first of the week, there were not many campers but was told they were full for the weekend.  Being that we enjoy less of a crowd, we left before the weekend arrived and enjoyed a very quiet and beautiful week at Cloudland.

We drove on the road so lined with beautiful trees to the lookout area, hiked some of the trail and just enjoyed the beauty of the trees at this season of the year.

We just kind of hung out in the park and enjoyed being… with the exception of the strong winds and rain Thursday night.   We meandered back home Sunday only to discover our backyard full of the same beautiful colors that we had left in the mountains…God’s beauty is everywhere!

  5. Great pictures. Love the Fall colors. One of our first Casita journey's was to Cloudland Canyon. Had the grand daughter with us, so it must have been back in 07, or so. Still remember all those stairs to the bottom of the waterfall.

  11. Sounds you both have enjoyed the day. Passing in the road with bright colored tress both sides will be nice.
    Park also looks very beautiful.

  13. Fall is my favorite time of year. I grew up in California, so when I moved to Washington with my husband having four seasons was a bit of a shock. (First time I saw snow, I stared up in shock for several minutes, and the first thought able to get into my mind was "DANDRUFF!") I recovered eventually, but I'm still a bit surprised every time snow actually falls from the heavens.

Fall makes it worth the cold and ice though. All those colors swirling together in a living, breathing river of its own. I can never get enough of such beauty.

  16. My wife and I have threatened for years to take our Casita to Cloudland Canyon, but so far we haven't done it. It seems like an easy trip for us, but when we look at the driving time we always balk.

When I went to high school, I lived in Ellijay with my parents. We would plan trips to Cloudland Canyon and somehow never make it over (just a few counties away). I wish we'd made that family trip--it was high on my mom's list of places to see, and she never got to see it.
