In looking at the map and the best route to take we noticed we could travel the Natchez Trace for about 170 miles +/- and then finish up on I20 to Vicksburg. We are planning to do the entire Natchez Trace in October when we finish the warranty work on our Oliver but why not enjoy this beautiful road instead of the interstate!!! We typically avoid interstates if we can and that was a good decision today!!
Here are a few pics of our trip today. Some were taken through the truck window on the move so excuse the lack of clarity.
We arrived in Vicksburg around 4:15 and found our way to the Ameristar Campground in Vicksburg, We stayed here several years ago when we were full-timing in our Dutch Star!! It is very clean with a fair amount of grass between sites and concrete pads. We noticed right away we are by no means the only ones running from Irma. There are a large number of Florida tags.
Late this afternoon we drove to the Welcome Center but it was just closing so we will visit there tomorrow. We did take a walk around the Welcome Center and took photos of the bridges crossing the Mississippi River!!! Of course, we took plenty of pictures of this great river. It doesn't matter how many times you've seen it or where you saw it..... it is still a magnificent site!! Such great history surrounding the Mississippi!!!
Going uphill from the waterfront |
Wednesday we plan to visit the Vicksburg National Military Park.
Thanks for stopping by as we outrun Irma! Prayers continue for the people affected by Irma in Florida, Georgia and Alabama.
Continuing to remember and pray for those still struggling to put their lives back together in Texas from Harvey and don't forget all the wildfires out west and those people!!! Gee, so many people and places to remember in our prayers!!
Today is September 11th......please take a moment to reflect on this day in history. So many left home that morning to never return. We lost our fellow Americans and others on that day!!
Nice that you enjoyed the Trace and are safe from Irma. Enjoy the area.
ReplyDeleteYes, safe is good from that one!
DeleteThe Trace was such a pleasant drive!! Looking forward to going back in October and doing it slowly and seeing more things along the way.
We were there in July one year, and the local high school students volunteered to work at the Military Center. It was in the 100's and they were so eager to show you their handmade uniforms and shoot off the cannons. There so much to see in that town.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome about the high school students! It's always nice to see them involved with history!!
DeleteWe are looking forward to seeing as much history here as we can!!
Thanks for dropping by and commenting!!!
That drive is beautiful. Can you imagine what it might look like when all the leaves change.
ReplyDeleteWe stayed at the same campground you are at. We loved Vicksburg National Military Park. There is so much see. Enjoy!
We plan to drive the entire Natchez Trace in October so I hope we can see some of those beautiful trees in all their colors!!
DeleteWe are enjoying Vicksburg and it's history.
So glad to know you are safe. I'm still waiting to hear from some friends. Enjoy your stay.
ReplyDeleteHope you hear from your friends very soon and that they are safe!!
DeleteYour pictures 'through the lens' are beautiful...one more so than the next! Grateful to know you are safe and even able to enjoy the 'jello'...a requirement for all good full-time RVers." :-)
ReplyDeleteMargery, thank you for the kind comments. You know it is the unplanned trips that sometimes end up as the best ones. It is like someone said, when you get to the end of the road then you decide which way to turn. Avoiding Irma was a bit tricky as they really didn't know which way she would end up going.
