Sometimes we look at sights in nature but don't really see. While hiking in the woods the other day, it became a realization that we need to open our heart and eyes to see the beauty of the simple things in nature with each season. There is so much order and purpose in His creation. God has given us awesome beauty in this world to see and enjoy... if we would but stop to see and feel it. Join us as this blog is about stopping to see the real beauty around us...to touch and feel it... "Through the Lens".

Dinner at Big Daddy's Grill

Last night Gene and Judi, Mike and I had dinner at Big Daddy’s Grill on the Fish River. Now I know it sounds like all we do is eat. Well, that is about half true. Escapees know how to cook, serve and eat good food. The Curps had planned to move on Friday morning and we wanted to spend this one last evening together…until we meet again somewhere down the road. Since Mike and I had never eaten or experienced Big Daddy’s Grill we all decided this was the place to go. Gene suggested that we arrive before dark and be there after dark since both times are naturally nice on the river. He was right.

When we arrived, it was just before dusk and the river was quiet and still. Very peaceful. We walked down to the dock and enjoyed the sights and sounds of this south Alabama river. There are several houses on the river in this area and of course, Big Daddy’s Grill. After dark the lights come on and once again the ambiance is perfect.

Now to the food. I had fried shrimp, coleslaw, hush puppies and fried onion rings. I hope my doctor isn’t reading this! Judi also had the same fried shrimp dinner. Gene had grilled fish with fried onion rings, slaw and hush puppies. Mike had chicken fingers….don’t ask!! The portions were monstrous and delicious. We ate until we were stuffed. I can’t wait to take Stephen there when he comes for a visit.
After leaving Big Daddy’s Grill we decided to extend our visit a little longer at Gene and Judi’s rig. We sat and talked for several hours just enjoying the evening and being with good friends this one last night before they move on. It feels like we have known each other for a very long time. We finally said our “see ya laters” and gave our Escapee hugs and went home to our coach.
Now for the rest of the story.

As it turns out Gene and Judi didn’t get very far Friday morning. Gene gave Mike a call to let him know that instead of “movin on” down I-l0 towards Tallahassee he was heading for the local Ford dealership. It seems he needed two new batteries for his truck. So instead of “movin on” they are “stayin put” until Sunday.
