Sometimes we look at sights in nature but don't really see. While hiking in the woods the other day, it became a realization that we need to open our heart and eyes to see the beauty of the simple things in nature with each season. There is so much order and purpose in His creation. God has given us awesome beauty in this world to see and enjoy... if we would but stop to see and feel it. Join us as this blog is about stopping to see the real beauty around us...to touch and feel it... "Through the Lens".

Sleeping with the Enemy

Sunset at Deerlick Creek COE

Ok, it’s not as bad as it sounds!!  We have homebased for over a year in Auburn, Alabama where our son is currently living.  It’s no secret we have been Auburn Tiger fans and it’s also no secret that Auburn and Alabama are rivals on the football field as well as other places of sports competition.  With Stephen moving to Baton Rouge to work with the food service at LSU, we will have to become a different kind of Tiger...the Geaux Tiger kind!
Our site at Deerlick Creek COE
Today we FINALLY got the wheels rolling on Ollie!!  They rolled us about 3 1/2 hours northwest from Auburn and landed us in the Tuscaloosa area at Deerlick Creek COE Campground!!!

What a beautiful place this is!!  We are right on the water and surrounded by nature!!!  Our kind of place!!!  We are in a pull thru site with a wooden deck right outside our Oliver and steps leading down to yet another sitting area, picnic table and wooden deck.

All clean and pristine....COE do things right at and such a wonderful cost...especially if you have The America Beautiful Pass!!  We could stay here a week but we are on our way to the Oliver factory or fondly referred to as the “Mother Ship.”  We need a kit put on our Truma Aqua Go tankless water heater so Mike can do the necessary maintenance on it.  I think it needs decalcifying yearly.  This will only take a couple hours but it gives us time to enjoy those yummy sweet rolls at Yoder’s and maybe a picnic lunch on the Natchez somewhere!!

Tomorrow morning we will be heading further north and stopping for the night at a favorite campground...McFarland Park in Florence Alabama.  Hopefully we’ll have a good view of the Tennessee River!!

Stay tuned....we’re rolling!!!

  5. Wow---what an awesome campsite... I've never seen one quite that neat.....I'd have a hard time leaving there....

So --you are sleeping with the enemy!!!!! ha ha ha.... Alabama has always been an enemy to my Tenn. Vols also --although now, FL is one of our biggest rivals.... TN has a new coach --from Alabama-- so we'll see how well he does. Our team sorta went to 'pot' the past few years....

    Happy Travels...
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  6. Wow! That is one lovely campsite. We'll be sitting idol ourselves most of the year to be near our children. So we understand why you stayed in Auburn. But after a while that itch to move on does get strong. Enjoy your travels!

  10. Not long after we moved here to Cullman, Alabama I was out at the mail box. A car stopped and the lady driver introduced herself. She said she lives up the road. We talked for a few minutes then she said....(kidding I think) "before we can be friends, are you an Auburn or Alabama fan?" Gosh! These people take this stuff seriously.
