Sometimes we look at sights in nature but don't really see. While hiking in the woods the other day, it became a realization that we need to open our heart and eyes to see the beauty of the simple things in nature with each season. There is so much order and purpose in His creation. God has given us awesome beauty in this world to see and enjoy... if we would but stop to see and feel it. Join us as this blog is about stopping to see the real beauty around us...to touch and feel it... "Through the Lens".

Circus in a Big Tent

DSC_3590DSC_3562

Yesterday Gerri and I decided to go to a circus. Where in the world do you find a circus? Well, Callaway Gardens hosts the FSU Flying Circus and has been doing so since 1960. Callaway hosts a Summer Family Adventure Program that starts in June and goes to the middle of August. The circus is only a part of those activities.

We managed to brave the 98 degree weather and go inside the partial tent and enjoy the circus. I am not sure how the trapeze acts managed the heat and sweat as they caught each other in the air. If my science teacher is right and hot air rises, then it must have been 110 degrees at the top of the tent where the trapeze acts were.

The performance is done by students at Florida State University; and they entertain you with trapeze acts, different juggling routines, tight wire walks and much more. They do perform with the nets under them…..whew.  These students really do an awesome job.

  4. What a neat way to spend the day, I remember circus's from when I was a kid, they were real big deal's back then with their own train and lot's of hype. Took Adam to The Ringling Brothers Circus in St Louis last year and was dissapointed that he wasn't hardly excited about it at all, just the Tiger's got his interest. I guess things are different today for 8 year olds with all the video games and technology they are surrounded with. Oh well Donna & I enjoyed it.Be safe out there. Sam & Donna...

  9. Nothing quite like a circus under the Big Top. Now it seems most of them are in arenas and such. Looks like you guys really enjoyed a nice show in spite of the high temps there in GA. Fall is just around the corner. (OK, I'm grasping at straws for you folks over there, trying to be helpful)

  10. I have always wanted to be a clown, seriously..I actually was looking into "clown school". As I got older I realized I didn't need to spend the money..I was a natural. I could have been in their "gifted" program.
Does anyone remember the TV show "Circus Boy", with Mickey Dolenz??? LOVED THAT SHOW!!
