Sometimes we look at sights in nature but don't really see. While hiking in the woods the other day, it became a realization that we need to open our heart and eyes to see the beauty of the simple things in nature with each season. There is so much order and purpose in His creation. God has given us awesome beauty in this world to see and enjoy... if we would but stop to see and feel it. Join us as this blog is about stopping to see the real beauty around us...to touch and feel it... "Through the Lens".

The Day Before the Fourth

This weekend we are almost at capacity in the campground. It has been fun watching the folks come in, find their “perfect” spot, set up and have the fun begin. Gerri & I have been blessed in meeting several really nice folks. In fact, we met one family that lived where Gerri’s dad was born and raised; come to find out that their last name is Norman and Gerri’s grandmother was a Norman from the same area. Are they related???? Who knows, but now as we pass them we each say hey cousin. Then we just smile and go on each with our own activities. Several folks have come up and told us thanks for the things we do and for insuring their safety and quiet time by making rounds through the campground.

On the day before the 4th, there were many activities the families could choose from. A gentleman, Adam Kober, from the area brought in a couple of snakes and had a scheduled “Snakes Alive” program. DSC_3136 The snakes were his pets, one was a Milk Snake DSC_3138 and the other was an Albino Corn Snake. DSC_3144 They were neat and colorful, and all who participated really enjoyed the program and learning.

After the program, the fire department returned to the campground and put on a water display. Actually they sprayed water in the air and let the kids run under the spray and get soaking wet. DSC_3150 I even saw some parents walking under the spray. Gee there is a kid in all of us!

Later in the day there was a “fifties dance” at the amphitheater and several folks participated in this event.

As evening approached, the folks that run the Trading Post put on a movie for the kids to come to the pavilion and watch. DSC_3158 They sold popcorn, sodas, candy and other incidentals. Needless to say the kids enjoyed the movie as well as the parents or grandparents.

The day was topped off by many campers, including us, building campfires and just enjoying being out in nature. DSC_3159 The crickets, katydids and cicadas put on a grand serenade for great background music for the fireside stay.

We hope each of you had a grand day and we all remember how great and fortunate we are to live in a free nation. May we never take it for granted.

  2. Thanks for reminding us about the reasons to celebrate this and every 4th of July. It sounds like your park had a grand July 3rd celebration. Keep up the good work! Every park needs camp hosts as diligent and friendly as you two, Mike and Gerri!

  4. Happy 4th and glad you are having what looks like a troublefree holidy, if you can just keep the young drinkers quiet it should be okay, We are staying home and finishing the cleanup of the tree fall, then Sam is going to hang a Hummingbird feeder he bought so maybe we can recruit some too. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna.

  5. Happy 4th of July - looks like everyone is really in the mood for a nice celebration at that campground. By the way, both Paulette and I have Dell Inspirion laptop computers with the 15.6 in. screens.
