Sometimes we look at sights in nature but don't really see. While hiking in the woods the other day, it became a realization that we need to open our heart and eyes to see the beauty of the simple things in nature with each season. There is so much order and purpose in His creation. God has given us awesome beauty in this world to see and enjoy... if we would but stop to see and feel it. Join us as this blog is about stopping to see the real beauty around us...to touch and feel it... "Through the Lens".

A Good Night’s Sleep

Gerri & I have had some restless nights and have woken up with sore muscles and joints, so we went on a search for either a new mattress or a mattress topper. I know we are getting older, but not so much that a change in mattresses wouldn’t help. We put out some feelers on facebook and got several suggestions on mattress toppers. Since this would be the most reasonably priced item, we decided to give it a try. We did our research and information gathering as well as input from fellow rv’ers and came up with several thoughts. We decided on a certain density and thickness (4lb density and 3” thickness) in our topper. Mary of http://thegreatrvescape.blogspot.com/ had the Mem-cool memory foam topper from  http://overstock.com and highly recommended it. After researching it, we ordered that one and received it in less than a week. DSC03430

We DSC03431 opened it up, unrolled it and let it lay out for about 12 hours. It has a bit of an odor, but in a few days should be gone. Wow!!!! It sure did sleep good last night. We can’t wait to go to bed tonight!

Even though it is just Thursday night, one section of our campground is just about full. You know what, it is very quiet tonight and our hopes are that we will have a good group this weekend for the 4th of July celebration. Here’s hoping!!!

We just want to say a big thanks to all who read of our life and our experiences in this lifestyle.  We have some new friends that have joined us and we just want to say thanks to you!!

  4. That was the first thing we did when we bought our rig was buy a mattress exactly like in our own bedroom, now we can go from one right to the other and fall right asleep, Hope you have a good holiday, we are sitting it out, the holiday weekend brings out the partyers and drunks, especially at the Lake, they only camp a couple holiday weekends a year so we sit them out.Vacation is coming anyway. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna.

  5. I think we have the same one - isn't it comfy? :) It did have an odor - we left the bedspread and blankets back every day and I think it took 3 or 4 days for it to go away.

  6. I bought a 4" down topper for our mattress in the RV and it made all the difference in the world.

Nothing beats a great nights sleep.

  7. If the topper doesn't work for you, try bedinabox.com. We bought one a few months ago and it is wonderful. It's 4inch memory foam on top of 8 inches of regular foam. It's the new type of memory foam that isn't as hot and when you turn over there is no indentation.

I hope you have a relatively calm holiday weekend and everyone behaves!

  8. Getting a good night's sleep is important when dealing with the public every day. That way you won't bite their heads off. :)

  9. Sounds like a good purchase. You might want to get a cover for it as well to help keep it cleaner longer. Sleep well.

  11. Only two months before trading in our 2002 Cedar Creek for our 2009 Montana, we bought a new mattress. It was a short queeen which is suitable for RVs. The Montana came with a King mattress. We told them to keep it as it was the typical cheap RV mattress and we would be keeping our new mattress.

Len cut down the platform to fit the queen. It is amazing how taking only 4.5 inches off each side gives so much more walkikng around room on both sides of the bed.

Yup, it is so important for a good nights sleep to have a comfortable mattress. Glad you found what you need.

  12. We use the memory foam and love it! Be sure to air regularly so it does not get damp underneath. That smell at first is off-putting but they guarantee it is not harmful to your health. Luckily the smell does fade. The Camp Host Housewife
