Sometimes we look at sights in nature but don't really see. While hiking in the woods the other day, it became a realization that we need to open our heart and eyes to see the beauty of the simple things in nature with each season. There is so much order and purpose in His creation. God has given us awesome beauty in this world to see and enjoy... if we would but stop to see and feel it. What a Storm

This afternoon Gerri and I were sitting in our recliners reading some blogs and we heard a LOUD boom of thunder. We knew this wasn’t going to be good. All of a sudden we started to hear and see the rain coming down, and it just got harder and harder. DSC_3458

The winds picked up, we lost power and the rains got even harder. We had about 4 inches of rain in a little less than hour.

Outside our patio was under water, the road was blocked by branches and heavy piles of leaves and pine straw, we had creeks going all through the campground and parts of the asphalt roads eroded with the rush of water. The gravel going into many sites from the asphalt washed away in several places that an RV could not get into the spots if they wanted to. WOW! What a storm.DSC_3460

Within another hour the rains had gone, the sun started to slightly shine and the winds were calm. Boy was the campground a mess! We have NEVER seen the lake this full … it had overflowed its banks in many areas.

I took some pics of the mess, but Al, I don’t think I can doctor these up even with Picasa since it was still raining kinda hard when I took the pics.              DSC_3477

I went down to the roads in the campground and cleared all the limbs and stuff that had literally piled up on the road so people could drive thru the campground and then I noticed the road erosion from the gush of water. DSC_3479 While Gerri manned the campground, I went to the maintenance shop and picked up several orange cones to put out where the road and gravel had washed out.  I wouldn’t want a car or rv to possibly turn over. The hard rains and gushing water was enjoyed by our ducks. It temporarily formed a “creek” and the ducks played in it and swam from there into the lake.DSC_3478

Our new weather radio worked really well until we lost  power and I had forgotten to put batteries in it. I guess I needed the book on explaining weather radios and batteries for dummies.

All is okay and Life is Good.  Thanks for stopping by.

  3. I am thankful that you both are safe. What a mess in your campground, though. I hope you don't have an experience like that again!

  7. Looked like a big gully whomper of a rain storm alright. Just goes to show how fast things can happen & how damaging a sudden rain storm can be. Quick thinking to get those orange cones out & into place. Looks like the back hoes & gravel trucks will be busy in the park for a few days now getting things fixed up.

  10. It's a scarey thing when a storm pops up like that especially in an RV. I'm glad you didn't have any wind damage, sheesh. Four inches in an hour can make for an awful mess.

    Be well,
    Connie

  12. Quick,Go buy batteries today! Everyone needs to have a weather radio with batteries when living in an RV. Thanks for sharing your story and the pictures.

  13. Now that was a storm!! Enjoyed the pictures. Rain doesn't scare me. However, hail scares me to death. Sounds like y'all will be busy for a little while. Glad that you all were alright other than a little wet. Stay safe and forgetting to put batteries in the weather radio is something I would do so your not alone in that category.

    Stay Safe,

  14. It's amazing what a rainstorm can do. Very grateful you two are okay.

  15. Holy Cow! So, did all that rain cool things down some, or just make the humidity worse? :)

  16. Wow is right! That's a whole lot of water to be coming down in just over an hour! Good thing you're not in a flash flood area or you may have been in real trouble. Sorry, but I had to chuckle a bit when I saw that you didn't put batteries in your emergency weather radio!! That sound precisely like something I'd do - only, I wouldn't have any batteries in sight to put in the darn thing when the power went out!

  17. Looks like you got the same storm that passed through Canton the other night. We didn't have as much rain but we did have the thunder and lighting. Yesterday evening we had hard rain but the system moved out real quick.

  18. Northern suburbs of Chicago had flooded basements and cars floating on some of the streets...It was a good thing you weren't in a flash flood area...I'm more afraid of wind, though. We were in hurrican force winds last January at Hickiwan Trails..We were waiting for our back window to blow in...Glad to hear you are safe and sound...

  19. Glad you and the other campers were all safe. I can't get that tragedy from earlier this year out of mind. How is one to know if a place is safe?

  20. Next time, get a picture of the arc. Plus, I thought all the animals were supposed to get in line two by two? The ducks got the picture, but there's an extra set :)

    Glad everyone's ok!

  21. Our major storm was Sunday. Had annual yard party at the house. Day started 97 and humid. If that was not bad enough, storm blew in fast. Son in law and his band was set up. No time to move the amps, speakers, etc. Jury still out if there is permanent damage. Down the road were 8 telephone poles laying like dominoes. Said a mile tornado came through area.

Sure glad your situation was not more severe.

  22. So glad you guys made it through OK! I have that same radio and mine came with a DC plug-in as well as the AC wall plug. I keep mine plugged in to a DC outlet in the bedroom so that it won't lose power if/when shore power is lost. Another plus is that it will continue to work as we drive down the road - as long as the strongest weather channel is selected. Get some help getting the campground back into shape!

  24. Wow that was a storm glad everyone is safe.

We were eating dinner outside tonight and watching the Giants game on the outside TV when we saw the black clouds coming in and then the thunder & lightening. We quickly finished eating and pulled everything inside just as the rain started.

  25. Ahhhh, the life of a camper...Living in the "big middle" of Mother Nature! GOT BATTERIES?
Glad you didn't get swept away and that everyone is safe.

  26. Wow, quite the storm, we had one that started out the same way, just not so much rain. Glad you guys didn't wash away.

  27. What a storm. They can be so exciting!

  28. Wow! Looks like you had a pretty serious downpour! Glad things weren't worse! Hope it all dries out pretty quick for you. The pictures are amazing as always! Love the ducks enjoying their new creek!

Does the weather radio have an optional cord so it could run off of a house battery with or without an inverter? I will be hopefully buying one soon and that will be pretty important to me I think.
